Lamps: Create an Impression!
A lamp should make a statement about you and the room you are decorating. Lamps are also decorative items that are meant to draw your attention. But with so many types and styles, how do you find the right one? For starters, determine what purpose the lamp will serve. Will the lamp be used to illuminate an entire room or highlight a specific portion of it? Or is the lamp a reading lamp? These questions must be answered before the lamp purchase is made. Also, choose an appropriately sized lamp. Don't buy a lamp that will dominate the space. Keep in mind that a lamp is an accent feature and its sole purpose is to create light in a stylish manner. It is intended to draw some attention, but is not intended to be the main focal point of the room. On a small table or narrow console, a more slender lamp may be best. A large end table can accommodate a more bulky lamp without being dominated by it. In addition to size, also consider the lamp's style in relation to the style of the already existing furniture, or even the home itself. A modern style lamp will certainly look out of place in a more traditional setting.
To make rooms a bit more interesting, vary the height of the lamps throughout the room. The differing heights will add depth and interest by creating separate areas of light and shade, as well as break up a uniform height level.
Regardless of your choice, the lamp you pick should be lovely to look at whether on or off.
